Already Above The Law?

It seems to me that the big political machinery is grooming Sarah Palin to be the next Dick Cheney. After all, vice presidents are above the law, and never need to be held accountable.

What are they trying to hide?

From Palin allies sue to halt trooper probe:

Allies of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin stepped up attacks on state lawmakers investigating the firing of her public service commissioner Tuesday, calling it a "McCarthyistic" inquisition and asking judges to block the probe.
She was for it, before she was against it.
Palin originally pledged to cooperate with the investigation that the Alaska Legislative Council commissioned in July. But since becoming Sen. John McCain's running mate, campaign spokesmen have lashed out at the probe as "tainted" and "partisan," and fought to get the state Personnel Board to launch its own probe.
"McCarthyistic" must be a joke. Right? They can’t be serious. One little investigation is not "McCarthyistic." This is an insult to all those who actually were black listed by McCarthyism.

Update:
From Natural Born Liars by Josh Marshall:
Presidential candidates usually have to wait until they're elected to start obstructing investigations into their own wrong-doing. But ready on day one as he is, John McCain and Sarah Palin are getting a jump on this front too. I'm not sure I've ever seen an instance of a president, let alone a presidential candidate, quite this nakedly doing everything in his power to shutdown an investigation. And look closely -- Palin herself has at this point entirely turned the obstruction over to the McCain campaign. They're even the ones who make the announcements. (I won't get into the battery of lawyers plumbers up in Alaska getting all the small fry to clam up and digging up dirt on all Palin's accusers.)

Meanwhile, the claim that the Obama camp has 'tainted' the trooper-gate investigation is truly risible. This investigation was well underway and already looking bad for Palin and her husband well before John McCain picked her as his running mate.
