One ice-cream titan is toiling away in his kitchen to give Bernie Sanders a boost.
Ben Cohen, the co-founder of ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s, gave the scoop on Monday about a new Sanders-themed ice cream flavor, called “Bernie’s Yearning.” The flavor features plain mint ice cream, topped by a “thick disc of solid chocolate,” meant to represent the “huge majority of economic gains that have gone to the top 1% since the end of the recession,” according to a picture of the pint posted on Mr. Cohen’s website. The ice cream beneath represents “the rest of us.”
The instructions then tell eaters to smash up the chocolate and mix it with the ice cream.
Mr. Cohen said he chose to make the flavor because he had received so many questions about whether one existed since he and Mr. Greenfield endorsed Mr. Sanders last summer. The two founded the company in Vermont, where Mr. Sanders is a U.S. senator, and it still keeps its headquarters there.
“Jerry and I have been constituents of Bernie Sanders for the last 30 years,” Mr. Cohen wrote on his website, next to a picture of him wearing a “Stamp money out of politics” t-shirt. “We’ve seen him in action and we believe in him.”
