Liberty Counsel Today

Liberty Counsel: The Gays Who Sued Got Their Licenses So Kim Davis Doesn’t Have To Issue Any More:
The Liberty Counsel has filed a motion with the Sixth Circuit Court which claims that since the gay couples who sued Kim Davis have now gotten their licenses, her office doesn’t have to issue any more.

Liberty Counsel Six Years Ago

If you follow gay blogger Joe My God at all, you know he's politically opinionated, but also breezy and fun. So it may surprise you that some prominent conservatives have called the FBI on him.

Not on him, exactly -- on his commenters, some of whom made what these conservatives take as menacing statements, which they think should be treated as terrorist threats.
Americans for Truth added, "The pro-family Christian defense organization Liberty Counsel has contacted the FBI regarding the threatening posts." LaBarbera told us that Liberty Counsel's Matt Barber had indeed called the FBI.

JMG said the comments "don't pass the laugh test as a 'terrorist threat,'" but nonetheless removed the post and asked his readers to notify him of any comment "that you feel incites to violence," and requested, "please don't post anything, even in jest, that you wouldn't mind saying in a signed letter to your local newspaper."

Ironic, isn't it, that the irony of using the First Amendment to try to defend Kim Davis et al is lost on those who think that the First Amendment doesn't apply to homosexual bloggers.

God Hates Fags And So Does Mat Staver

Mat Staver is the lawyer who represented Kim Davis.

From 10 Things You Should Know About The Liberty Counsel:

Mathew Staver, in an audio report on BarbWire.com called Freedom’s Call, said “Last week I had the opportunity to submit a brief to the U.S. Supreme Court and to testify before Congress regarding the attacks on religious freedom of licensed mental health professionals, minors, and their parents. Homosexual activists have attempted to enact laws throughout the country that would silence mental health professionals from expressing the truth that an individual can successfully reduce or eliminate unwanted same-sex attractions behavior or identity. These efforts are nothing more than an attempt to censure any viewpoint concerning scriptural teaching on human sexuality. They represent one of the greatest assaults on children and families that has risen in recent times.”
Mat Staver Said American Opposition To The Criminalization Of Homosexuality Is “Immoral.”  “Staver: More than sixty countries have laws criminalizing homosexuality and virtually every country in the world has laws that criminalize pedophilia and child incest. Malawi was doing what it was doing in its own best interest and America should not be trying to make that country act in an immoral way.”
Staver Urged Magistrates To “Stand Your Ground” And Not To Resign In The Face Of Same-Sex Marriage, Promising Liberty Counsel Representation. According to a press release, “Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver is urging people in states affected by same-sex unions to stay: ‘Stand your ground. Do not voluntarily resign your post when confronted with this intolerant agenda.’ Staver made these comments after several magistrates in North Carolina resigned because they refused to preside over a same-sex marriage. ‘I appreciate the conviction of these magistrates, but rather than resign they should remain at their post. Liberty Counsel will represent them, but once they resign there is not much we can do to help,’ said Staver.”
Even better -- Liberty Counsel compared marriage equality to slavery and forced sterilization. Enter Mat Staver: “It’s shameful for the Supreme Court for what they have done to marriage as it has been shameful in the history of the court with regards to the Dred Scott decision or the Buck v. Bell decision, where they said that the state of Virginia can forcibly sterilize her because of this eugenics idea that they want to eliminate the undesirables of the world. That was the shameful day that we ultimately look back with shame upon and I think this is going to be one of those same kind of situations.”
This is just a small sample of what Mat Staver is all about. Can't you just feel the love?

Kim Davis And Her Lawyers

Jailed Kentucky clerk seeks emergency injunction in gay marriage case:
Lawyers for jailed Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis said on Monday they had asked an appellate court to force Governor Steve Beshear to let her refuse to issue same-sex marriage licenses based on her religious convictions.

The lawyers sought emergency relief from the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, asking it to grant Davis an exemption from the "governor's mandate that all county clerks issue marriage licenses," the non-profit legal advocacy group Liberty Counsel, which represents Davis, said in a news release.

"The governor’s refusal to take elementary steps to protect religious liberties has now landed Kim Davis in jail," Liberty Counsel founder and chairman Mat Staver said.
Just who is Liberty Counsel and Mat Staver?
Liberty Counsel is a non-profit public interest law firm and ministry that provides free legal assistance in defense of "Christian religious liberty, the sanctity of human life, and the traditional family."[1] Liberty Counsel is headed by attorney Mathew D. Staver, who founded the legal ministry with his wife, Anita, in 1989 and currently serves as president. A close partnership exists between Liberty University, which was founded by the Rev. Jerry Falwell, and Liberty Counsel; Staver served as Liberty University's law school dean from 2006 to 2014.[1] In 2004, Liberty Counsel became affiliated with Liberty University/Falwell Ministries and Liberty Counsel opened an office at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Liberty Counsel describes its practice as a First Amendment practice, focused on religious liberties, freedom of speech, church/state issues in public schools and in the public square. Liberty Counsel has been listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).[2]
A law firm and ministry?

Jesus would practice law.
