For a musician whose son is Eric Claptons guitarist and who co-wrote or wrote many of the songs recorded by Stevie Ray Vaughn and has put out a CD with Denny Freeman, CC Adcock, Mike Keller, Doyle Bramhall II, and Jimmie Vaughn as featured guitarists it’s interesting that said CD isn’t about guitar solos. It’s all about SOUND. Big sound. Wonderful textures of sound. Huge sounding drums. Thick textures of guitars. And a wonderful sounding voice. That voice would be the voice of Doyle Bramhall. He also plays drums on the album.
The CD is called Is It News. It’s not a blues album, yet it’s steeped in the blues. It is a very creative variation of roots-based rock-n-roll that satisfies the soul.
